Flashback Friday

This is a design of a pansy on a yellow daisy.

Blissful Beliefs

The flower symbolism associated with the pansy is also merriment and you occupy my thoughts. The pansy is also considered a flower of remembrance, togetherness and union. Pansies help evoke fond memories of our loved ones. It is believed if a pansy is placed over someone’s eyes while sleeping, upon waking that person will fall in love with the first person to appear.

The pansy’s appearance and name made it a symbol of “freethought” and has been for some time.  It is a philosophical perspective that states that one’s opinions should be based on logic and science and is void of emotion, convention and authority.  If you subscribe to this viewpoint you are known as a “free thinker”.

The daisy represents purity, innocence, loyal love, beauty, patience and simplicity and new beginnings.  The Gerbera daisy, the fifth most popular flower in the world, has the added symbolism of cheerfulness!
The word daisy comes from the Old English word dægeseage, meaning "day's eye".   The daisy was thusly named because at night the petals close over the yellow center and during the day they re-open or “awaken”.  This is how the fun saying “as fresh as a daisy” was created; it infers that someone had a restful sleep.

The daisy is actually two flowers in one, called a composite flower.  The yellow center is called the disc floret and the outer petals are the ray floret.  Because they are actually two flower in one, blending it such beautiful harmony the also symbolize true love!

Symmetry is another manifestation of the balance of Yin and Yang, of the unimpeded flow of ch'i.
