Heartfelt Affection -

Lilies are my absolute favorite flower.  I am not sure there is a kind that I don’t adore.  The Lily of the Valley is my birth flower and for everyone else born in May.  They symbolize modesty and devotion.  The symbolism of the lily is enriched by the color.  Pink lilies symbolize opulence.

Lilies are also the 30th wedding anniversary flower.  The Chinese use the lily in weddings as they are associated with a century of love.  They also are considered good luck.

In Greek mythology it is believed the lily was created from Hera’s (wife of Zeus) milk and are associated with rebirth and motherhood.

Assyrians and Babylonians associated lilies with the goddess of fertility, Ishtar.

Christians associated lilies, especially Madonna lilies, with the Virgin Mary

Symmetry is another manifestation of the balance of Yin and Yang, of the unimpeded flow of ch'i.

Heaven on Earth -
Hawaiian symbolism of the honu (green sea turtle) symbolizes good luck in the form of a guardian spirit. Honu also represents the navigator and an everlasting connection with the land, ocean and humankind.

There is a legend in Hawaii about a large honu (sea turtle), named Kauila who is a guardian of children playing on a Hawaiian beach by transforming herself into a human girl.

Throughout the ages humans have bestowed turtles with special meaning. Ancient myths from different cultures describe the world as resting on the turtle’s back. Among Far Eastern cultures it was believed that the turtle’s back symbolized Heaven and that its underside represented Earth. For them the turtle signified the possibility of uniting Heaven and Earth within one’s own life.

Native American folklore actually referred to the North American as “Turtle Island.”  According to the story, North America is perched on the back of a very large turtle who volunteered its shell as a home for all of the land animals. A turtle’s shell is strong enough to carry the weight of the continent on its back, and with it their actual home.

Some cultures today still regard the turtle as a symbol of the primal mother and believe that it is connected to the lunar cycle. Others associate the turtle with longevity and wisdom. Incredibly, sea turtles have existed on earth longer than any other vertebrate animal — they were here when dinosaurs evolved and became extinct, and they survived the Ice Age.

The sea turtle also symbolizes patience, wisdom and endurance as they will travel incredible distances to reach the beach that they were born on to lay their eggs.

There is a saying, “Home is where the heart is” — the turtle is always at home within itself.

๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ€๐ŸŒˆHAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ€๐ŸŒˆ

๐Ÿ‘€ A NEW DESIGN My first St. Patrick's Day design I thought it was about time!

Ceaseless Celtic Connection - The Celtic Knot is an infinite loop there is no beginning or end. This endless loop symbolizes eternal loyalty, faith, friendship and/or love and how we and all life are connected to eternity.

The shamrock’s 3 leaves in Christianity was used to explain the holy trinity the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and this is why St. Patrick is depicted driving the snakes out of Ireland with a sprig of shamrocks in one hand and a cross in the other.  Prior to the introduction of Christianity to Ireland the three leaves symbolized faith, hope and love with the fourth bringing good luck. ๐Ÿ€

The Celts revered the number 3 as sacred.   Gods were displayed in threes representing the core categories fire, breath and water also the fold of 3 division of the universe, earth, sky and sea. The number 3 is infused in Celtic lore.

The Druid people had a strong knowledge and relationship with nature. They had a plethora of passionate philosophies founded on triads, as we see in the triskelion, triple spiral, triquetra, Druid marks, and numerous knot-artworks. An incident of a threesome represented characteristics of gods/goddesses, time and the balance of energy.

Did you know:
The word shamrock is derived from the Irish shamrรณg which in turn comes from seamair รณg and this translates into English as: “young clover.”

That the shamrock has been trademark by Ireland and can only be used for items of Irish origin

The shamrock has been used as a symbol of Ireland since the 18th century

Symmetry is another manifestation of the balance of Yin and Yang, of the unimpeded flow of ch'i.

Introducing a  new design!

Plump Puffin - The appearance of a puffin can indicate a need for a lifelong mate. It can serve as a sign for an extended life span, but also a reminder to guard your health now.

A few facts about puffins: The name Puffin refers to the young birds roly-poly look.

They are widely regarded as the cutest bird on earth and I must agree!

They are referred to as the clowns of the ocean or sea parrots thanks to their amusing expression and colorful beak.

The Atlantic puffin’s Latin name, Fratercula arctica, translates to “little brother of the north,” which may allude to the Atlantic puffin’s plumage resembling a friar’s robe.

Puffins lead long lives for birds—often more than two decades. The oldest known puffin lived to be 36. The species’ maximum age is difficult to gauge because dated leg bands often corrode in the puffins’ salty habitat, or become illegible as the puffins nest in rocky environments. In fact, it’s hard to track which puffins were ever banded at all.
