Captivating Calliope – A monarch butterfly on a red & yellow lily
I take about as much time naming my designs as I do creating them. The titles reflect the romantic in me, my desire for a world filled with love, peace, kindness, acceptance, respect, whimsy and beauty. I want to share with you not only the symbolism of this design, but the meaning of my title.
Calliope is a muse, one of nine in Greek Mythology. She is the eldest and thus considered the monarch over all muses. She presides over eloquence and epic poetry. Calliope and her eight sisters were often called upon for artistic inspiration from poetry, music, dance and every geometry! Thus, I named this piece Captivating Calliope. Calliope for the monarch butterflies, who are frolicking in enchanting symmetry, and captivating for their mesmerizing magnificence.

Symmetry is another manifestation of the balance of Yin and Yang, of the unimpeded flow of ch'i. Ch’I is a river pristine energy, a power that not only flows through us, but unites our tangible self, our body, thoughts, emotions and sensations to our intangible, our spirit and consciousness. Ch’I is the crux of our pure self.
