Free Spirit - The ancient Aztecs believe that the dearly
departed souls return as hummingbirdsand butterflies. The Mandarin Chinese word for butterfly is
"hu-tieh". "Tieh" means "70 years", therefore
butterflies have become a symbol for a long life. If a butterfly crosses your
path, it means good luck. In the Japanese culture butterflies are thought to be
representative of young maidens and marital bliss. In ancient Greek the word
for butterfly is "Psyche", which translated means "soul".

Poseidon’s Prosperity
Interesting facts about Seahorses
•Seahorses prefer to swim in pairs with their tails linked
together.
•They swim upright and avoid predators by mimicking the
color of underwater plants.
•Except for crabs, few marine predators eat the seahorse -
it is too bony and indigestible.
•Because of their body shape, seahorses are rather inept
swimmers and can easily die of exhaustion when caught in storm-roiled seas.
•Seahorses have no teeth and no stomach. Food passes through
their digestive systems so quickly, they must eat almost constantly to stay
alive.
•Seahorses are monogamous and mate for life.
•Seahorses engage in an eight hour courtship dance which
includes spinning around, swimming side by side and changing colors.
The Ancient Greeks and Romans believed the seahorse was an
attribute of the sea god Neptune/Poseidon and as such, the seahorse was
considered a symbol of strength and power.
The ancient Europeans believed that the seahorse carried the
souls of deceased sailors to the underworld to give them safe passage and
protection until the met their soul's destination.
Chinese cultures believed that the seahorse was a type of
sea dragon, and therefor revered for their power and thought to be symbols of
good luck.
Celtic meaning of the seahorse is they are a good luck charm
of the oceans bringing sailors safe voyages and courage. It is also a the
Celtic animal sign for those born May 13th – June 9th
Sailors have long viewed the seahorse as a good luck charm
too.
Other symbolisms of this fascinating creature are: Patience,
Protection, Perspective, Inflexibility, Persistence, Friendliness, Contentment,
High-Perception and Generosity/Sharing.

Before and After
Gordan Green – This
is a Hawaiian green sea turtle. The precious turtle is listed as endangered.
Sea turtles have existed on earth longer than any other vertebrate animal —
they were here when dinosaurs evolved and became extinct, and they survived the
Ice Age. This turtle lives up to 80 years. Sea turtles cannot pull their head
into their shells like other turtles. Green sea turtles are the largest of sea
turtles weighing up to 700 pounds! Most sea turtles warm themselves by swimming
close to the surface but the green sea turtle will actually sun itself on the
land along side seals! Sea turtles often return to the same beach they were
born on to lay their eggs. The turtle symbolizes the navigator to Hawaiians.
Throughout the ages
humans have bestowed turtles with special meaning. Ancient myths from different
cultures describe the world as resting on the turtle’s back. Among Far Eastern
cultures it was believed that the turtle’s back symbolized Heaven and that its
underside represented Earth. For them the turtle signified the possibility of
uniting Heaven and Earth within one’s own life.
Some cultures today
still regard the turtle as a symbol of the primal mother and believe that it is
connected to the lunar cycle.

Fall Dreamcatcher – Here are a few fun facts about autumn!
According to Greek legend, autumn beings when Persephone
returns to Hades in the underworld. Heartbroken, her mother, the goddess of
grain and harvest, allows the crops on Earth to die until her daughter returns
in the spring.
According to seasonal patterns of relationships in Facebook
profiles, autumn is the time when more singles change their status to “In a
Relationship” or “Engaged” than the yearly average. More breakups occur during
the summertime.
According to superstition, catching leaves in autumn brings
good luck. Every leaf means a lucky month next year.
I fell in love with this scenery at Itasca State Park in
Northern Minnesota. This is one of my first designs. I have titled this Fall
Dreamcatcher because it reminds me of a dreamcatcher. Symmetry is another
manifestation of the balance of Yin and Yang, of the unimpeded flow of ch'i.

Mau Loa - The pink plumeria is also known as the frangipani. In Hawaiian Mau Loa means "Forever". For Hawaiians, plumeria represents perfection and the bond between everything good. In addition, plumeria is the symbol of new life, springtime and re-creation of the nature.
In China, plumeria flowers are tokens of love. In China, it is not accustomed to share personal feelings, but giving a plumeria flower to your sweetheart has the same meaning as saying "I love you" or "You are special." Chinese consider plumerias even more precious than orchids.
In Hindu culture, plumeria flowers represent loyalty, and young brides wear plumerias in their hair on their wedding day to show their loyalty to their new husbands.

Something fun I am trying GIF's from my photos so they are like looking through a kaleidoscope. I have this one moving quite fast as I wanted to make it look like the butterfly was flying. Most feedback I got was good a few didn't like it as it was too fast and made them feel dizzy. New GIF's will be slower.
Warm Embrace - This is a Painted Lady Butterfly. It is the cousin of the Monarch. They can fly up to 100 miles per day and as fast as 30 MPH. The Painted Lady butterfly is called the “Cosmopolitan” butterfly because it can be found on every continent except Australia and Antarctica! They eat thistle and the caterpillars weave fluffy silk cocoon s on the thistle plants therefore they are also referred to as the “thistle” butterfly their scientific name also translates to thistle butterfly.
The Mandarin Chinese word for butterfly is "hu-tieh". "Tieh" means "70 years", therefore butterflies have become a symbol for a long life. If a butterfly crosses your path, it means good luck. In the Japanese culture butterflies are thought to be representative of young maidens and marital bliss. In ancient Greek the word for butterfly is "Psyche", which translated means "soul". Hummer Heaven
Fun fact about hummers:
Hummers are “new world” birds and are only found in the
North and South America
Hummers can fly up to 34 MPH (54 KM/H)
Hummers can hover, fly forward, backward and UPSIDE DOWN!
The overall symbolism of the hummingbird is joy. In animal
totems the hummingbird is a powerful symbol of life and joy, Because of their
ability to hover hummers are often thought to be reminders that life is meant
to be savored, their tireless activity symbolizes perseverance and because
hummingbirds do not simply flap their wings up and down, but instead move them
in the pattern of the infinity symbol, or a figure eight, they are often
thought to symbolize eternity and everlasting life. The ancient Aztecs believe
that the dearly departed souls return as hummingbirds and butterflies.

Before and After
Lavender Lust –
I am drawn to intense colors therefore the
winters in northern Minnesota can be quite uninspiring for me. I was in
desperate need to create one winter so I bought a bouquet of flowers and misted
them with water. It was bitter cold, 20 below zero, so the water froze on the
flowers immediately encasing them in a frosted ice. I was utterly pleased not only with the result but the design as well. The meaning of the Peruvian Lily is friendship and devotion. Symmetry is another manifestation of the balance of Yin and Yang, of the unimpeded flow of ch'i.

On the outside of the daisies are bleeding hearts. The essence of the bleeding heart flower is said to open up and strengthen the heart chakra, which in turn causes a person to feel emotionally soothed and open to the possibility of new romance. It is thought to be especially useful after a heartbreak. These blossoms are also frequently used in love spells. In between the bleeding heart are pansies. The Pansy’s symbolize merriment, thoughtfulness, remembrance and love. The pansy is also considered a flower of remembrance, togetherness and union. Pansies help evoke fond memories of our loved ones. It is believed if a pansy is placed over someone’s eyes while sleeping, upon waking that person will fall in love with the first person to appear. In the center of this design are grape hyacinths (also known as mucsari). Hyacinths symbolize playful joy. Specifically blue hyacinths symbolize sincerity.

Spring Sonnet before and after!
Spring Sonnet before and after!
Spring Sonnet - The daffodil symbolizes rebirth and new
beginnings and has become synonymous with spring. The daffodil is also a sign
of winter’s end. The flower symbolism associated with the pansy is merriment
and you occupy my thoughts. The pansy is also considered a flower of
remembrance, togetherness and union. Pansies help evoke fond memories of our
loved ones. It is believed if a pansy is placed over someone’s eyes while
sleeping, upon waking that person will fall in love with the first person to

Pomaikai Before and After...
The Gecko is a symbol of good luck. I think they are completely adorable and contrary to popular belief, they do not try to sell your insurance! I captured this photo in Hilo Hawaii. I titled this design Pomaikai that is Hawaiian for good luck. Symmetry is another manifestation of the balance of Yin and Yang, of the unimpeded flow of ch'i.
